Birra Moretti
Birra Moretti wanted to bring back the tradition of Sunday Dinner, so we teamed up with authentic Italian nonnas to create lasting memories beyond the meal itself.
Birra Moretti ranks as the #1 most authentic Italian lager in Canada. The brand is rooted in Italian heritage, a passion for life’s simple pleasures, and is best served alongside mealtime with loved ones. Those who know Moretti love its taste, history, and what they stand for. Unfortunately, this group of loyalists is still relatively small in Canada. In order to grow we needed to broaden Birra Moretti’s appeal and connect with all Canadians who live authentically.
The tradition of gathering around a table for weekly Sunday dinners is happening less and less in Canada. Many Millennials who grew up breaking bread around a table every weekend haven’t kept up the tradition for their own family and friends. This reality didn’t sit right with Birra Moretti, as a brand that champions all of the benefits that family time spent around the dinner table has to offer.
In order to revive the tradition of Sunday Dinner, we enlisted the help of true experts – authentic Italian nonnas. These matriarchs have hosting in their blood, and possess the knowledge and skills to pass down the art of Sunday Dinner to the next generation. Despite not creating their own Sunday Dinners, Canadian Millennials were still craving connection. This desire was manifesting in the modern culture of supper clubs – curated pop ups where friends and family alike could enjoy time together over an exclusive menu.
By marrying the authenticity of Italian nonnas with a modern approach to dining, the Nonna Supper Club was born. Together with Publicis Sport & Entertainment, we created an intimate Sunday Dinner experience where nonnas can share their love of food and drink with the public. These nonnas are reigniting a sense of community, and encouraging Canadians to re-establish weekly moments of togetherness in their own homes.
We partnered with three beloved nonnas in both Toronto and Montreal, popping up at premiere Italian restaurants in each city. The menus were created in partnership between our nonnas and restaurant partners, offering a truly unique experience for one night only. As the gracious hosts they are, our nonnas will be running the evening and joining guests at the table to share stories from all the Sunday Dinners they have had over the years, and advice on how guests can make their own Sunday Dinners a success. For those unable to attend, we crafted a digital guide with cherished family recipes from our nonnas, and tips on how to host your own amazing Sunday Dinner meal.
“Knowing that our goal was to encourage Canadians to preserve the tradition of Sunday dinner, we needed to remind people of what that truly feels like – and who better to remind them than the people who know it best. The Nonna Supper Club brings light to a dimming tradition by blending our nonnas’ time-honoured values with an approachable and trendy supper club atmosphere. This campaign invites Canadians to pull up a chair every Sunday for an evening of community, connection, and of course a glass of Birra Moretti.” – Vini Dalvi CCO, Publicis Canada
