Petro-Points
Whether you’re commuting, carpooling, or constantly on the go, Petro-Points believes Canadians should get rewarded for every drive. We showcased just how much time Canadians spend on the road as part of their routine, highlighting the potential value non-members are leaving in their rearview mirror.
Building on the success of our Summer acquisition campaign, Petro-Points set out to keep the momentum going this Fall. As a program focused on rewarding drivers, Petro-Points wanted to encourage sign-ups by showing Canadians just how easy it is to turn every fill-up at Petro-Canada into a rewarding experience.
With countless loyalty programs out there, convincing people to join another one can be difficult. That’s why we made it clear: Canadians don’t have to change a thing to earn rewards – they can simply be rewarded for their everyday activities. As summer wraps up and routines settle back in, schedules fill up with school pick-ups, morning practices, afternoon errands, and more; the time spent behind the wheel really adds up. Toronto drivers, for instance, spend 199 hours in traffic each year, carpooling parents clock 69 hours driving their kids, and late-night date night drives take another 67 hours annually. That’s a lot of driving, and a lot of pit stops for fuel. That also means plenty of missed opportunities to rack up rewards, because with Petro-Points, members earn points every time they fill up.
Canadian drivers are essentially driving away from savings if they’re not part of Petro-Points.
“We analyzed how Canadians drive and how much time they spend on the road to reveal just how often they stop for gas to fuel their routine.” says Chief Strategy Officer, Mary Chambers. “By grounding our approach in real data that highlights how Canadians’ everyday journeys – like commuting or running errands – can effortlessly translate into tangible rewards… it’s a simple yet powerful way to show the incredible value hidden in their daily travels.”
Our “Reward Your Routine” campaign was inspired by data insights we discovered about our audience, designed to resonate with the everyday busy lives of drivers – whether they’re city commuters, sports parents, or long-haul truck drivers. We aimed to highlight the time and distance they already spend driving, showcasing how Petro-Points can help them get more from their gas purchases.
Our hero video illustrated how the typical Canadian routine translates into significant kilometers driven, complemented by a variety of assets tailored to specific driver personas, which were strategically placed in contextually-relevant digital and physical settings.
To sweeten the deal, Petro-Points offered new members a $10 bonus in Petro-Points after their first 25L fill-up if they sign up during the campaign period – essentially giving them 25¢ off per liter on a 40L fill! Plus, partnerships with brands like RBC and Triangle Rewards further empower Canadians to transform their daily routines into valuable rewards.
